WOGAP consists in a group of scholars, mainly in the Boston area, interested in philosophical work on gender, feminist philosophy, and related issues, especially concerning race, class, disability, colonialism, and other oppressive structures. Those expressing interest in the Workshop will be put on an email list to receive announcements of meetings and occasional news and information for feminist philosophers in New England.
Between 2000-2022 we have met at MIT the second Thursday of each month during the academic year. The standard format is to have a speaker circulate her or his work in progress on some topic in the broad area of gender and philosophy. Participants are expected to read the paper in advance of the workshop to allow maximum time for discussion. Normally 20-25 people attend; this includes a core group who come to nearly all meetings. For the foreseeable future, WOGAP will be held in a hybrid format with some in person and others using Zoom; during the academic year 2021-22 we will meet from 6:30-8pm Eastern. "WOGAP from home" now also includes a reading group *ROGAP* (Reading on Gender and Philosophy) that meets every other week on Zoom (Tuesdays, 4:30-6pm Eastern). Zoom links and papers are provided to those who join.
If you are interested in joining the monthly Workshop or the Reading Group, please email: [email protected]. Be sure that your name and the email address you want us to use are clear (either from the message or its header). Please include a sentence or two indicating your background in philosophy and/or feminist theory. We do not normally include undergraduate students. We will circulate the paper for the monthly Workshop electronically about a week prior to the meeting during which it will be discussed. We select and circulate readings for the reading group each meeting for the following meeting.
